Wireless vs Hardwired Security systems – This page explains the main factors you should take into consideration when deciding if you should go with a hardwired or a wireless security system.
Reliability – Whether you choose wired or wireless, your security system must be reliable enough to detect a break in attempt or other emergency event and alert the proper person or authority in time. After 10 years of wireless installations and a lot of technology moving on, there are no longer many problems with reliability or false alarms in wireless systems that have been installed by a professional. Security manufacturers are continuously investing in improving the wireless technology of alarm systems.
Time and Money – With hardwired alarms being more time consuming compared to wireless alarm systems, the technology is cheaper, sometimes if it is a larger job hardwired alarm systems could cost more through labour costs. Wireless systems and the components inside them are much more expensive, however the installation time for wireless system is shorter and there is much less hassle compared to a hardwired system.
In general most alarms will work in the event of a power failure. The industry standard is for the battery to power the system for a min of 8 hours. If the system is armed and there is a power failure the standby battery will hold the alarm in its current status until the power is restored.
